Kimi K3.1 Pro weights are free but need a server
Moonshot AI published Kimi K3.1 Pro as a free download. It now leads Artificial Analysis's ranking of open models, but the files take about 1.56 TB.
Moonshot AI put the weights of Kimi K3.1 Pro on Hugging Face on 2026-11-02. Weights are the files you need to run a model on your own machines. It now ranks first among open models on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, with a score of 46. In coding test results that Moonshot published itself, it comes within a point of Claude Opus 5.5. It has its own Kimi license, so a business should read it before use.
The download is about 1.56 TB and needs a server with many graphics cards, so it will not run on a laptop or a gaming PC. Ollama offers it only as a paid cloud model.
To run AI at home, Qwen is our best pick in local AI models, and Gemma fits a 16 GB laptop. You can also use K3.1 Pro online in the Kimi app.
