ChatGPT Images 2.6 is 50% faster and makes GIFs
OpenAI released Images 2.6 on all ChatGPT plans. It makes pictures 50% faster, keeps people and products consistent across edits, and can make animated GIFs.
OpenAI released Images 2.6 on 2026-11-04 in ChatGPT and Codex, on all plans, on the web, desktop and phone. OpenAI says it makes images 50% faster than the previous version. It can now make animated GIFs, such as a moving mascot or a looping product shot, and it keeps characters, products and brand details the same from one edit to the next.
You ask ChatGPT for pictures the same way as before, and they arrive sooner. Short animated reactions or memes can now come from the same chat. The free plan still has low image limits that OpenAI does not publish.
ChatGPT Images stays our best pick in AI image generators and in photo editing. For free images, Gemini (Nano Banana) remains our pick.
