How we pick
Plain answers, checked every day. How the rankings are made, kept fresh and paid for.
What we rank
For each job (chat, images, video, voice and so on) we compare the tools a normal person would actually use, paid and free, closed and open source. We rank them for quality first, then price, then how easy they are to use. Each page names a best overall, a best free option, the best one that runs on your own computer, and sometimes a best value.
Where the facts come from
- Prices from each official pricing page, in US dollars, monthly billing. Each tool page shows the day we checked.
- Quality from public leaderboards where people vote blind, such as LMArena and Artificial Analysis, plus model cards and our own tests.
- Hardware from model cards and public benchmarks (llama.cpp and similar), for the size most people should download.
Every tool page lists its sources at the bottom.
How it stays current
A tracker runs every day. It reads new model releases, price lists and leaderboards, and proposes changes. A person reviews each proposal before it goes live. When a better tool appears, the pick changes and the page says when.
Referral links
Some links are referral links. We may earn a fee if you buy, at no cost to you. It never changes our picks. Referral links are marked as sponsored in the page code, and a referral never earns a tool a place in a ranking.
